You can now customize our official printable Navigator shells exactly how you want them!
Adaptability is what makes something ergonomic. It takes thoughtful design too, but no matter how thoughtful you are, eventually you have to let it out into the world and see what people do with it. The best ergonomic tools facilitate experimentation.
So when we were making a mousing solution, it had to be adaptable. That's why you can take a Navigator core out of a shell and swap it with another; you aren't locked into any specific configuration. It also opens the door for any kind of custom shell you can imagine.
Almost exactly a year ago, I made a printable Navigator shell for the Voyager that puts the Trackball by your thumb. I was just thinking about it as another option that a few people might like, but it turned out to be more popular than I expected. Over the last year I've made more shells for the Moonlander, and then I came back to the Voyager with the release of the Navigator Trackpad to make a raised default shell and some more options for the thumb shell.
Even with all the options I made, people still wrote in with different needs. I wanted to take the customization further.
Now, you can choose any of our official shells and customize them right in your browser, then download the file you made, all ready to print. If you try the default Navigator shell and want something taller, you can do that. If you try the thumb shell and want something with higher tenting, you can do that. If you want the Trackball to sit lower while your hands go higher to keep it more out of your way, you can do that.
If you have a 3D printer, check it out and let me know what you think. If there are other parameters you would like to see, please feel free to write in. I have some ideas, but I'd like to hear from you.
Here's to whole new levels of customization!
