We've just added a few Mac-specific keycodes to Oryx:
- Mission Control
- Spotlight
- Do Not Disturb
- Lock Screen
- Dictation
These just work. You don't need to install any additional software or make any configuration changes to your Mac. We tested them on Big Sur, Monterey, and Ventura.
Lock Screen and Dictation are by far my favorites. Having one-key access to Dictation on macOS is a game changer when writing prose.
Because these keycodes are special, they are not available on dual-function keys or Tap Dance keys. You need to give each macOS-specific key its own dedicated spot on your layout. This is a limitation of the underlying firmware (QMK) rather than Oryx.
What I ended up doing was giving Lock Screen and Dictation their own spots on my Layer 2, and then using Whack-a-key to drill them into my muscle memory.
These join a few macOS-specific keycodes we already had, such as F14 and F15 to decrease and increase display brightness (respectively). Enjoy! :)
